Bantwal, Oct 2: “Bantwal rural police arrested four persons in connection with chain snatching cases and have recovered two bikes and jewellery worth Rs 2 lacs from them,” said district SP Bhooshan G Borase.
Speaking in a news conference held in Bantwal rural police station on Saturday evening, October 1, he said that Numan (20), son of Balluru Gudde resident Bashir, Shabaz (19), son of Kannur Beedu resident Abdul Kareem; Shabaz (20), son of Kannur Kundala resident Badruddin and Thousif (23), son of Pudu grama Kumpanamajalu resident Abdul Lathif are the arrested suspects.
“The suspects were fleeing after snatching gold chains from the necks of women walking alone in Bantwal town, Bantwal rural area, Vittal and Punjalkatte for the last one year. The suspects had stolen Pulsar bikes from Adyar padavu and near Kannur check post and were using those bikes for snatching the chains. Rural police were conducting vehicle inspection in Benjanapadavu this morning, October 1 and arrested Nujman and Thousif who came in bikes. In the operation conducted on the basis of information obtained from them, the police have arrested two more suspects,” he said.
“There are seven cases of robbery and thefts in different police stations in the district registered against Numan. He was in judicial custody and was released on bail. Two bikes, one knife and four gold chains snatched from the necks of women are recovered from the suspects. The suspects had kept the ornaments at home without selling them,” he said.
“Rural police station SI Rakshith A K, staff Janardhan, Jagadish, Jayakumar, Nazir, Suresh, Prashanth, Sunitha, Bantwal circle inspector Girish, Naresh, driver Vijayeshwar, district computer department’s Sampath participated in the operation. Police and staff who arrested the suspects will be given suitable reward,” he said.
