Kundapur, Oct 2: A youth who was walking on the railway tracks died after a demo train that came from behind hit him here on Saturday, October 1.
The youth unaware of the arrival of the train was reportedly walking on the railway tracks after keeping headphones on his ears. The deceased is identified as Jagath Hegde (23), son of Kishore Kumar Hegde, a businessman hailing from Udupi by origin, but now a resident of Bengaluru.
Jagath was the grandson of Kolkebail Soorappa Shetty and had come to the house of his grandmother Chandralekha Hegde in Kundabarandadi on Saturday.
The demo train was on its way from Mangaluru to Mumbai. Jagath apparently did not hear the sound of the train as his ears were covered with headphones. It is said that Jagath used to walk on the tracks even during his previous visits to Kundapur. His grandmother used to scold him asking him not to go there. She had reportedly said the same on Saturday also, but Jagath had gone saying that he will return soon.
Jagath was a bright student, had completed his engineering studies and had secured a job recently. His brother is employed abroad.
A case stands registered in Gangolli police station.
