Kundapur, Oct 4: Fire ignited through electrical short circuit spread to the entire house located at Abbigudde near Mookambika Highschool at Mavinakatte in the taluk at around 7.30 pm on Monday October 3. In this unfortunate incident, a woman was charred alive. She has been identified as Noor Jan (40), daughter of Fatimabi.
Fatimabi was the eldest of four members of the family living in the house that perished in this incident. Her son, Anwar, operates an auto rickshaw in the town. Noor Jan and her ten-year-old son, Zubair, normally remained at home. Fatimabi had escorted Zubair to the lower mosque on Mavinakatte -Neralakatte road at about 6.30 pm for studying Urdu language. The boy usually returned home with his grandmother after the class concluded at 7.30 pm.
At around this time, short circuit happened in the switchboard from where connection was given to a refrigerator. It is thought that on account of this, compressor of the fridge would have exploded and fire would have spread to the entire house within seconds. Noor Jan, who was alone in the middle room of the house, was completely charred due to this explosion.
Although locals rushed there on seeing fire and tried to extinguish the flames, their efforts did not yield fruits. The fire brigade was called thereafter. The firemen, with support from local people, succeeded in dousing the fire but it was too late. The mortal remains of the woman were thereafter shifted to government hospital for completion of formalities.
