Kundapur, Oct 5: T Venkatesh, who recently took over as the deputy commissioner (DC) of Udupi district, paid surprise visits to some offices including the municipality here on Tuesday October 4. On this occasion, he also inspected the private land which is proposed to be acquired by social welfare department for construction of students hostel.
Venkatesh, who emerged as a soft-spoken officer, was at ease when speaking to media persons too. "I conducted this surprise visit to the town, which happens to be my fourth after taking charge of the district. I have lot of dreams of transparent development of the district. I also inspected the office of the municipality here," he explained. He revealed that as vacant government plot is not available for the proposed construction of students hostel in the town, proposal to buy private land has been approved and that processes are under way. "The backward classes hostel here too is over two and half decades old. It has been in a state of utter neglect because of non-maintenances since the last seven to eight years. This year, fund has been sanctioned for repair of this building, which will be got executed through Nirmiti Kendra," he explained.
During his visit to the backward classes students hostel run by social welfare department, the DC asked the officials to pay more attention towards health, hygiene, and cleanliness. Thereafter, he visited the dumping yard of the municipality at Kandavara and appreciated the functioning of manure making and waste disposal units.
Local municipal chief officer, Gopalakrishna Shetty, tahsildar, Borkar, revenue inspector, village accountant, Somanna, and other officials were present.
