Cary Fukunaga to conduct masterclass in Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 6 (IANS): American filmmaker Cary Fukunaga is set to conduct a masterclass during Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival with Star here on October 25. The masterclass will give insights into his craft, challenges and choices of a filmmaker.

On Fukunaga's first visit to India, the festival organisers will also throw a mid-festival soirée in honour of the "True Detective" director at AER - Bar & Lounge in association with Chandon on October 24.

Jio MAMI with Star's Creative Director Smriti Kiran said in a statement: "It is surreal that Cary Fukunaga is attending the festival. I deeply admire his work. The masterclass with him would be an invaluable experience for the fans he has in India."

"Voices like his are rare. He attacks the emotional core of his audience and you can almost taste the diverse worlds he dives into with each of his films. He is singularly brilliant."

Festival delegates will also get a chance to interact with Fukunaga through a Q&A after the masterclass.

At the soirée, Chandon will unveil the new signature bottle design inspired by the festival. AER Bar & Lounge's new star mixologist Ashish Sharma and Chandon India will conceptualise a special cocktail menu comprising Mumbai flavours.

Sophia Sinha, Senior Marketing Manager, Chandon India, said: "Cinema, much like the bubbles in a flute of sparkling wine, is a great catalyst of conversation. With its commitment to nurturing this art, MAMI has become one of the most prestigious calendar events in our country."
