Mangaluru, Oct 6: "Goods and service tax (GST) is the biggest taxing revolution in the country, which will help India to develop drastically and remove the burden of multiple indirect taxes levied on tax payers," said Dr M Subramanyam, IRS commissioner of customs, central excise and service tax, Mangaluru.
This, he said, when speaking on, ‘Indirect taxation in India with specific reference to the goods and service tax’, in a talk arranged under the banner of Manel Srinivas Nayak Knowledge series organized by Manel Srinivas Nayak Memorial Besant Institute of Post-Graduate Studies, Bondel at its premises on Wednesday, October 5.
He also added, some of the key aspects to be considered while imposing taxes are - equality, certainty, convenience, economy and efficiency. He stressed the importance of - broadening the base of taxes, enforcing destination-based taxation, conduction of taxation, and dual taxes in which the central and the state government are both involved in the collection of taxes, the different types of GST - Integrated GST (IGST), Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST).
“The vitality of Goods and Service tax network (GSTN) for the development of the economy, creating more employment for the people, and reducing corruption substantially when the tax is collected mainly through electronic form (online), thanks to GST” he said.
