Mangaluru, Oct 8: Schools in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts will reopen after Dasara holidays on October 28 instead of October 24 as announced earlier, in tune with requests put forth by several organizations. The organizations including those representing teachers had argued that unlike other districts, schools in these two districts had not been closed for six days on during Cauvery dispute disturbances and state bandh.
The schools which were closed for disturbances for a day have been asked to work on two Saturdays to compensate the same whereas those who had been closed for two days have been asked to compensate it by working on four Saturdays during November.
An order to this affect was passed by the commissioner in the department of public instruction.
State Highschool Teachers Association vice president, Ramakrishna Shirur and president of Dakshina Kannada Primary School Teachers Association, K Shivashankar Bhat, have thanked the minster for education and officials in the department for favourably responding to their request.
