Bantwal, Oct 9: Due to short circuit of a battery of a motor bike kept inside a shed at Madiyala in Alike village near Vittal in the talk during the early hours on Saturday October 8, the motor bike exploded. The fire completely gutted the motor bike and its shed. Loss in this case has been estimated to run into several lacs of rupees.
The motor bike had been parked by Tirumaleshwar Bhat in a shed adjacent to the house belonging to his father, Madiyala Gopalakrishna Bhat. At around 5 am on Saturday, the family members woke up to bright light coming from near the shed. They saw that the shed was aflame. They then summoned help from neighbors and succeeded in extinguishing the fire. The Bajaj pulsar motor bike and coconuts stored inside the shed turned into ashes due to fire. Electricity cables too were charred.
It is suspected that gnawing away of connecting wire by a rat would have resulted in short circuit. The shed stands adjacent to the house. But for the immediate action taken by the family, the incident would have turned into a catastrophe involving lives and property and loss would have been many times more.
