Kalaburagi, Oct 20: Police personnel from Sahabad town station in Chittapur taluk in the district, who were investigating a case of defacement of flex hoarding with the picture of Lord Rama, have found out that dung was thrown at the flex and defaced by the activists of Sri Rama Sene (SRS) with the specific aim of flaring up communal passion.
There were allegations that dung was thrown at the flex having Lord Rama's picture with the specific aim of insulting the Hindu God by people of another community.
The arrested accused in this case are Neelesh Ibare (24), Abhishek (19), Vinod (22), Srinivas (21), Thippanna (25), and Muhammed Bava (22).
The police claim that these six persons had committed the sacrilegious act of hitting the said flex with dung on October 12 Vijaya Dashami day in a public place in Shahabad town at around 4.30 am. Thereafter, Sangh Parivar organizations had organized protests, demanding immediate arrest of culprits.
In view of sensitive and serious nature of the crime and its potential to kick up communal feelings, police had formed special investigation team led by deputy superintendent of police, Mahesh Meghannavar. The police, who conducted in-depth investigation, succeeded in reaching to the bottom and arresting the accused.
Investigating officers said that during their interrogation, the accused confessed to have thrown dung at the said flex that was hoisted by themselves, with the specific aim of creating communal unrest. Investigation is continuing.
