Mangaluru, Oct 20: Taking jibe on the BJP led central government at the centre, working president of district Congress committee Ibrahim Kodijal opposed the common civil code on which debate is going on in the nation. He also spoke about why polygamy is allowed in Islam while speaking against Uniform Civil Code.
Black money promise
Addressing a press meet here at DCC office here on Thursday, October 20, Kodijal said "Prime ministers of this nation from Jawaharlal Nehru to Manmohan Singh did what they said. But the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not kept his promises made prior to the elections. He said he would get back the black money and would deposit Rs 15 lac in each in every citizen’s account. But not a single rupee has been brought back.”
Harmony in society
"He promised of a harmonious and peaceful society. But today Dalits and Muslims are being targeted. For Swachh Bharath drive, they have spent crores of rupees for advertisement. The nation can be clean when his heart is clean. By advertisements alone the nation cannot become clean. The centre has also should allot funds in the budget and give it to the states." Kodijal added.
Polygamy in Islam
"Now on the issue of triple talaq (divorce) the central government has given an affidavit to the Supreme Court. According to the shariyat, a person can have more than one wives provided he is the financially strong to look after all of them equally. Islam strongly opposes prostitution and in order to prevent men from going to prostitutes when wife is unable to fulfil sexual needs, it allows polygamy." he said.
"The constitution has given freedom to follow their respective religion and the Modi government is unnecessarily involving in curtailing the freedom of one particular religion. We all came to know that Modi had a wife only after he became the prime minister. How well he has looked after his wife?” he questioned.
Achche Din
"Now Modi should stop making false promises and get active in implementing schemes for the poor and underprivileged in the society. During UPA’s rule the poor farmers, Dalits, minorities and underprivileged had Achche Din (Good days). But now the Ambanis, Adanis and foreign companies are enjoying Achche Din under Modi's rule." Kodijal continued.
Cauvery
"According to the constitution whenever there is dispute between two states relating to land and water, the central government should interfere. So Modi should interfere and solve the Cauvery issue. We all want peaceful solution. So I urge the prime minister not to indulge in unnecessary issues and work more for the betterment of the people of this nation." he concluded.
Congress leaders T K Sudhir, Ramananda and others were present.
