Bantwal, Oct 20: The police department which has taken steps to regulate traffic in Farangipete, vacated petty shops and pushcarts in front of Barake Complex here on orders from superintendent of police (SP) Bhushan G Borase on Wednesday, October 19. Objection from a few local people led to confusion for some time.
At a public meeting led by SP Bhushan G Borase on Sunday October 16, people raised several complaints about the traffic woes in Farangipete. People complained that auto rickshaws, bikes and private vehicles are parked in front of the bus stand causing buses to pick up passengers on the highway thereby resulting in heavy congestion.
Bantwal traffic police on orders from the SP have begun imposing fines on vehicles parked on both sides of the bus stand from Monday.
Traders and local people who objected to the operation tried to phone Pudu grama panchayat PDO and requested him to come to the place. However, despite repeated requests, he did not turn up. His mobile was later switched off.
Iqbal Amemar, former grama panchayat member said that there is no objection to the widening of the road. “It is unfair to suddenly vacate those who earn their living through petty shops and push carts,” he said.
