Govt plans salary hike of President, Vice-President, Governors

New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI): Salary of President and Vice-President may go up to three times as the Union Home Ministry has prepared a proposal for raising the emoluments of the country's two top functionaries.

The move comes following the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations which has created an anomalous situation in which the salary of the President is Rs 1 lakh less than that of the country's top-most bureaucrat, the Cabinet secretary.
The proposal is expected to be placed before the Union Cabinet for its approval soon, official sources said.

At present, the President gets Rs 1.50 lakh per month, the Vice-President Rs 1.25 lakh and Governor of a state Rs 1.10 lakh.

As per the proposal the President's salary may go up to Rs 5 lakh and Vice-President's up to Rs 3.5 lakh, sources said.

After the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission's awards, the Cabinet Secretary, who is the top-most bureaucrat in the country, gets Rs 2.5 lakh per month and a Secretary in the Union government draws Rs 2.25 lakh per month.

After the Cabinet gives its nod, Bills to this effect will be tabled in Parliament, possibly in the coming Winter session, for passage.

Salaries of the President, Vice-President and Governors were last hiked in 2008 when Parliament had approved a three-fold increase.

Till 2008, the President's salary was Rs 50,000, the Vice-President's Rs 40,000 and a Governor's Rs 36,000.

In addition, proposals are also expected to be moved for raising the pensions of former Presidents, spouses of deceased Presidents, former Vice-Presidents, spouses of deceased Vice-President and former Governors.

    Joseph,

Where you in Gulf country? If you must have saved enough. I know very well how much income we need to have comfortable life in Mangaluru. Min. Rs. 50,000 plus ?

Very few are lucky to have earned in the Gulf countries and save for the future. I am one of them. I still work because a good Kuwaiti was so kind to employ me even after I got retired from the bank (35 years service). My fly is with me and back in M'lore I have my bros & sistrs. Life goes on. We need to be blessed and also hard work.

    Dear Flavian, Mangaluru/Kuwait,
I was in the sultanate of Oman in Salalah for a period of 10 years. I brought my wife to Salalah after that we left Salalah. I had been at home as a mother to my children. Now far far better in the grace of Lord Jesus where ever I am. Believing and walking in the love and commandments of the Son of the living God will have life here on earth as well as eternal life in heaven.
I noticed and experienced in the living God that He will not shower blessings instantly upon our requests in the prayers. Prayers only will not convert us in to blessings. We have to walk righteously, truthfully and lawfully. God knows us well when to give how to give and where to give and when he gives He will give us instantly, abundantly.

I remember the verses in Isaiah 54:7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee but with great mercies will I gather thee. I am a great debtor to my Lord and savior Jesus Christ as He has purchased us from His blood.

Wishing you all the best to your family and children. May God bless you.

Is it required to hike in today's scenario?

If this Government wants to do some hike to people who have voted them to power, think of "Interest Earned on Bank Savings & Fixed deposits" is taxed above Rs.10,000/-
What is Rs.10,000/- in todays "Acche Din" !!!
For more than a decade this above Rs.10,000/- income is taxed from Savings Bank Account is Justified?

This Mr. Jootley...(our Finanance Minister Mr. Arun Jailtley)has to answer why the "Deposit Insurance" is a meager Rs.1,00,000/- which is the "Lowest" in the world today when compared to some under developed countries !!!

This is Acche Din of squeezing the Middle Class.

They (People of India) wanted a change in the government, and now they are reaping results for their deeds !!!

Shetre, everyone is free to support party and leaders of their choice. However, it is incorrect to support any party until they rob our lungi. Earlier Britishers looted us. Now, we have been looted by our own leaders - applies to leaders of every political party. Luckily we are in Gulf countries. Think of those people who are struggling for 3 meals a day. Visit some of the remote villages and judge the salary hike is a right or wrong decision. For a while, forget BJP or Congress and speak to your conscience.

Why only Lacs. Now everything in Crores. P.V.Sindhu got more than 15 crores for winning just one silver medal. Whole Brazil team din't get that much. While Middle class and senior citizens are realy strugling, government is only thinking about rich and politicians. At least don't reduce interest rates on deposits of senior citizens.
