Manipuri student found dead in JNU hostel

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI): The body of a student from the north east was found in a hostel room in Jawaharlal Nehru University today, police said.

The deceased identified as J R Philemon, native of Senapti district in Manipur, was found dead in room no 171 of the Brahmaputra Hostel, police said.

He was pursing his PhD on the subject of West Asia and he hadn't been seen for the last three days, a senior police officer said.

"When a foul smell started emanating from the room, the student in the neighbouring room called other students and security and forcefully opened door. He was found dead in the room," he said.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death.

It’s time this controversial university is shut down. JNU was establishment at a time when there were a few universities in the country, particularly with the objective of providing governmental assistance to unaffordable meritorious students. Now universities have mushroomed all over the country. The responsibility could be shifted to other reputed universities in the country. An institution shouldn’t continue after losing reputation.

Und emergency. Anyone who raises voice against a certain person or party, they will be labelled as anti national by hook or crook. Looks like large paid group has been assigned to do this job.

even I have the same question, as Sachidanand Shetty raised. Do we need this JNU , if so for what. Always get in to some issue, now on murder, few months back anti national activities... looks it has become an Adda for all these anti national activities. Let the central govt take a firm call if this University need to be continued or not. If to be continued , bring a strong committee to maintain the law and order insider the university. Make it a University instead of a criminal point. If not, dishonor the grade and dissolve the university.
