Mangaluru, Oct 26: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) launched vehicles to collect segregated waste from source on Wednesday, October 26 with the mayor K Harinath flagging off the vehicles here at MCC.
Green vehicles
Addressing media persons prior to the launch, chairperson of the standing committee for public health, education and social justice, Kavitha Sanil said "The civic body has introduced this facility to put an end to the handing of dry and wet waste together. Wet wastes like cooking waste, vegetables, fruits, food items, fish, chicken waste, tissue papers and other items should be put into the green vehicles without using plastic."
Yellow vehicles
“Dry wastes like plastic cover, milk packet, chocolate wrapper, paper, iron, glass, rubber and other items should be put into the yellow vehicles which will come for door to door collection once a week in every ward from November 1. There are 7 such vehicles managed by Antony Waste Handling Company. We request the general public to segregate and dump the waste. In case both dry and wet wastes are given together, then such waste will be rejected from collection." Sanil added.
MRPL road
Mayor Harinath said "Repairing work of MRPL road has come to a conclusion. The MCC will bear 30 percent with MRPL and other companies bearing 70 percent cost of the repair. The proposal will come to council for tender process tomorrow."
Thumbay dam
