Nonagenarian bitten by stray dogs, succumbs

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 26 (IANS): A 90-year-old man was bitten by stray dogs while he slept outside his home here on Wednesday and later succumbed in hospital to his injuries, officials said.

Raghavan was brought to the Government Medical College hospital after he was attacked by stray dogs early in the morning while he was sleeping in the veranda of his house on the Thiruvananthapuram outskirts, Medical College officials told media persons.

Raghavan, who stayed at tourist destination Varkala, succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.

His neighbour, who noticed the stray dogs attacking Raghavan, raised an alarm -- and it was only then that his family members, who were asleep, came to know of the ghastly incident.

This is the second death in Kerala following a stray dog attack. In August, a 65-year-old woman was mauled to death near Kovalam, a popular tourist destination south of the capital city.
