Bengaluru, Oct 27: A single judge bench of the state high court has directed the high court registrar general to treat a writ petition filed against celebration of Tipu Jayanti as public interest litigation (PIL) and place it before a division bench.
A person from Kodagu district had approached the high court seeking directions to the government against celebrationg the birth anniversary of Tipu as he felt there is possibility of fuelling of communal passions resulting in communal clashes. A farmer, K P Manjunath, had filed this petition.
The bench observed that this petition involves public interest. Therefore the presiding officer said it deserves to be moved in a division bench for consideration.
