Diwali sales of Chinese goods dip 60%: CAIT

New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI): Traders' body CAIT today said that Chinese goods saw a 60 per cent decline in sales on Diwali this year as people preferred to buy Indian products after the boycott call on social media platforms went viral.

According to the survey conducted in major cities by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), even traders showed lack of enthusiasm in selling Chinese products.

"Traders across the country were seen reluctant in displaying Chinese goods on the counter and even some traders put Make in India Board in their business establishments to woo the consumers," the traders' body said.

Instead of Chinese goods, people prefer earthen lamps and decorative items made from paper, clay and plastic to decorate their houses and some even used last year's material for decoration purposes.

The estimates are based on data collected from 20 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kanpur and Bhopal, the major distribution centres across India.

We Indians want to buy and use Made in India products. But an appeal to Indian manufacturers - please ensure that the items will be of good quality (no more jugaads) and priced same or lower than Chinese items - then the whole of India and even the rest of the world will buy Made in India products.

The great hero of India, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, was the planner of the 1942 Quit India movement.

The 1942 Quit India movement gave the clearest message to Britain to start packing its bags in India.

Of course, India had to wait until the war was over to see the backs of the Brits.

But guess who did not join Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in the great movement? It was RSS of course.

But now, the same mob that did not want to join Vallabh Bhai Patel in his nationalistic struggles has somehow grasped the greatness of the man.

They even have commissioned a mammoth statue made of the great hero, hold your breath, in China!

So we tell the whole world to Make in India, and we get the statue of our great hero Made in China!

Unfortunately the world of today can't be fooled easily.

Yes, we have to boycott Chinese goods. Let me show here the price comparison for 3 items.
Chinese digital weighing scale Rs 220, Indian Rs 1850. Chinese Oxygen PP Meter Rs 1100, Indian 6500. Washing machine part Chinese Rs 50 and Indian Rs. 850. With this, unless India stops import, there is some difficulty to control Chinese sales. With our labor cost, we will never be able to make that cheap. This is the reality, still we should stop their goods.

You are telling an open truth. The Chinese people are born to work with delight like their religion whereas in India, working for somebody to get some money, thus the productivity is way down, so the price is very high. The neighboring countries of China like Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos-Thailand etc are taking a lot of jobs from China at lower salary level but nothing is coming to India listening to the red carpet rhetoric of Modi.

Good response to China for they have gone too far to defend Pakistan against India.
China generating Income from Goods Sales to India is being used against India.
It warrants we should reject their goods.
How did CAIT got the percentage? Whether from Import data? If so then data may be accurate.
Most of the sales happening in cash.
In such circumstances percentage may not not be reliable.
Nevertheless Chinese goods must be rejected in our own interest.

John, that forty percent business was of only those items without Indian substitutes. It also includes purchases from indians, whose patriotic loyalty is towards some other country.

After reading your comment, I checked all the electronic items which are in my house and found all of them Chinese made. Even the shirts gifted to me by my relative in Canada, are made in China. My Addidas shoes are made in China. The Omega watch which my neighbor has, is made in China (Duplicate). Even American flag is made in China.

It is Indians who lost this time, maybe china will loose in following years.

Indian merchants already paid for all the merchandise. They pay 100 percent, prior to delivery. So, it will take a lot of time for them to recover their losses.

Maybe the lesson learnt in this current year, will force them to downsize their procurement.
