Mangaluru, Nov 5: VHP provincial Goraksha Pramukh Kateel Dinesh Pai on Saturday November 5 demanded that the state governmnet form a 'Gram Go Rakshana Dal' (village cow protection squad) in order to prevent incidents of cow slaughter and curb cattle trafficking.
Addressing a a press meet at the VHP office, Dinesh Pai said, "Cattle trafficking is going on all over the district. Last year Prashanth Poojary who was a go rakshak was murdered for protecting the cow. We have briefed the police department about places where illegal slaughter and trafficking is happening. But the police department is not taking any action against these activities. Recently cows were being illegally transported in a Qualis, and though Moodbidri police tried to catch the traffickers, they failed. But we thank Moodbidri inspector for his team's effort in catching the culprits.
"The governmnet should form 'Gram Go Rakshana Dal' in every village so that cattle thieves feel fearful. Our boys will also support the Dal. The government can form this squad by joining hands with milk producers and other cow lovers of every village," he suggested.
"Recently we had met the DGP in Bengaluru and he had directed all the SPs and police commissioners to take strict action against illegal slaughter houses. If the governmnet does not form the Dal in the next ten days, we will form it on our own," he said.
President of Dakshina Kannada district unit of VHP Jagadish Shenava said, "The BJP will hold a protest against Tipu Jayanti celebrations on November 7. VHP and Bajarang Dal will completely support the BJP in this and we will join the protest which will be held in front of the DC office. Chief minister Siddarammaih should say how many more sacrifices he will require to stop Tipu Jayanti."
