Ajman, Jan 10: Four men were killed and seven seriously injured in a horrific collision between a minibus and a HGV in the early hours of yesterday morning. It occurred on a two-lane road between Ajman and Sharjah. Sharjah Police said the mini-bus was filled with 11 labourers when it was hit by the truck, which was carrying tonnes of iron bars.
Officers said the crash was caused by the truck as its cargo was one-and-a-half metres wider than the cab on both sides and by the high speed of the minibus.“The poor lighting and the high speed of the minibus caused the accident. The minibus driver tried to avoid a collision by pulling onto the hard shoulder but the its back door hit the iron cargo, pulling it onto the top of the minibus,” one police officer said. The vehicle’s roof was crushed and three Bangladeshi men were declared dead at the scene. One Indian died on his way to hospital. The other seven men are being treated for serious injuries at hospitals across Sharjah. Police said they have launched an investigation into the accident.
