New Delhi, Jul 14: Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) historic 2024–25 campaign came to a bittersweet conclusion after a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final, denying them a fourth trophy and a clean sweep of the season.
Having already etched their name in the history books as the first French club to win a continental treble—clinching the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and the Coupe de France—PSG fell just short of ultimate glory on the world stage.
Head coach Luis Enrique admitted his side was second-best on the night but remained proud of the team’s achievements.

“We are disappointed, of course, but that’s football at the highest level. Chelsea were the better team and deserved the win,” Enrique told PSG TV.
“It’s been a very long season, and now it’s time to rest. Our supporters were incredible throughout this journey. This loss doesn’t define our season—we’ll come back stronger.”
Despite the final setback, PSG delivered a dominant run in the Club World Cup, cruising past Inter Miami and Real Madrid with 4-0 wins in the Round of 16 and semi-final stages, respectively. The loss to Chelsea, however, brought a sudden and sobering end to what had otherwise been a fairytale run.
PSG captain Marquinhos acknowledged the team’s underwhelming performance in the final but emphasized the need for perspective.
“We weren’t at our best today, far from what we’re capable of. But this doesn’t erase everything we’ve achieved,” he said.
“Winning the Champions League, dominating in France—this has been a historic season. We really wanted this title, especially since it’s held once every four years, but it wasn’t meant to be.”
While the Club World Cup title eluded them, PSG’s 2024–25 season remains monumental—highlighted by their long-awaited Champions League triumph, a domestic double, and a deep run on the global stage. For Enrique’s side, the mission next season will be not only to sustain this success but to conquer the final frontier that slipped away.
