Mangalore, Jan 10:
On discovering spurious liquor in a retail shop and in two bars, liquor licences of both these places have been suspended by the deputy commissioner.

This decision has been taken after the raids conducted by excise officials on a retail shop in Falnir in the city corporation limits, and one at a bar in Kuppepadavu village and other in Guruvanyanakere in Belthabgady taluk, respectively.

Under the Karnataka Excise Act (KEA) the department has booked non-bailable cases against the shop owners for cheating the public. The total number of licences suspended in the city has risen to seven and therefore the officials here have warned that stricter action would be taken against the misuse of the provisions of the Act and selling of spurious liquor.

The retail shops where liquor is being sold should not be allowed to be given to customers to drink in the shop itself or in the adjacent room. In some shops customers are seen drinking in front of the shop itself or on the counter giving room for unscrupulous elements to create nuisance especially to the ladies. Such shops to be immediately be closed suspendng their licencs
