Mangaluru: Cargo gate crashes - CISF Jawan loses life at NMPT Panambur

Mangaluru, Nov 18: A cargo gate at the main entrance to New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), Panambur unexpectedly crashed to the ground. As a result, a Jawan of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) lost his life.

The victim was Eshwar Naik (54). The incident occurred on Thursday November 17 morning. Naik was from Puttur.

Naik, it is learnt, pushed the gate to close it at around 5.40 am as his duty time was about to come to an end. One of the clamps of the gate, which was rusted, and which had been drilled into the concrete wall, suddenly came out, and the heavy gate came crashing down on Naik.

Naik, who was injured in the incident, was taken by other staff to the hospital. However, the Jawan, nature of injuries suffered by whom was critical, breathed his last soon, it is gathered. A case about the incident was registered in Panambur police station.

Eshwar Naik was a head constable of CISF. He was residing in CISF quarters at Panambur. He is survived by wife and two sons.

In the meantime, brother-in-law of Eshwar, Ramesh Naik, in a complaint to the police, said that this accident was caused because of negligence on the part of NMPT management.

    NMPT only interested in making money. Want to give 1 berth to private company and destroy the livelihood of the people that work there. This death amounts to culpable homicide and the chairman must be taken to task.
