Mangaluru, Nov 18: In an accident which occurred at Kolya on national highway 66 within the limits of Ullal police station on Friday November 18 morning, four persons were injured after a tanker carrying petroleum products hit a city bus.
The bus plying from Kumpala to the city was taking a turn towards the city near Kolya when a tanker coming from the direction of the city with petrol and moving towards Kerala dashed against the bus. In this accident, four persons,identified as Dhanalaxmi, Shobha and Deepika from Kumpala, and bus driver, Krishnappa, suffered injuries.
As the tanker hit the bus at the portion earmarked for women passengers, women passengers and the driver seated ahead of their seats were injured. Other passengers escaped unhurt.
About a month back, a car had hit a bus that was bound for the city from Kumpala at this particular spot. In that accident several persons were injured. Warning signs and barricades have been placed at this spot on the national highway, but the recklessness of drivers who continue to move at high speed, has been causing accidents here regularly. Many locals have urged the officials to take suitable legal steps to avert such accidents from happening frequently.
