Mangaluru, Nov 23: From Tuesday November 22, a number of ATMs in the twin-districts began to dispense Rs 500 notes. With this, lesser crowds were witnessed at banks. Some of the ATMs continue to be dysfunctional, and it is hoped that things will normalize in a few days.
While most of the ATMs of public sector banks are operational, several private bank ATMs failed to operate on Tuesday. There has also been noticeable reduction in the number of people willing to exchange old currency notes. Till now, because only Rs 2000 notes were mostly issued by banks, customers were facing problem of change. With the new Rs 500 currency notes, this problem is likely to be addressed. Banks too expect the situation to improve a lot within three to four days.
It is gathered that the coastal districts received fresh stock of currency notes of Rs 20, 100 and 500 denominations on a large scale on Tuesday.
