Central America braces for Hurricane Otto

Managua, Nov 24 (IANS): Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama are bracing for Hurricane Otto on Thanksgiving Day on Thursday as it is set to make landfall.

Panama saw four deaths and five more were missing from the early effects of Otto. It deployed its rescue workers as rain brought a number of houses down, trapping people inside.

In Costa Rica, officials expect Otto to lash near its border with Nicaragua.

While Otto is currently a category one hurricane, it is expected to strengthen and be upgraded with winds as strong as 120 kilometers per hour.

The US National Hurricane Center called Otto the seventh hurricane of the season and said it was presenting some unusual characteristics.
