Mangaluru, Nov 24: State water resources minister, M B Patil, said on Wednesday November 23 that out of total project cost of Rs 12,912.36 crore pertaining to Yettinahole project, Rs 1,825.43 crore has already been spent. He stated that this project is meant to provide drinking water to Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Hassan, and Bengaluru rural districts.
The minister was giving reply to question raised by MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, about the total size of the project, taluks and districts getting benefit out of this project, firms to which contracts have been given, and money spent by the government since the beginning of the project. He also wanted to know what has the government done to address the apprehension of the people from coastal area of the state about the adverse impact of this project.
For taking people of Dakshina Kannada district into confidence, a meeting chaired by the chief minister with the participation of ministers and MPs from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts was held on September 18, 2014. The participants were convinced about the effectiveness of this project. Only 24.01 tmc water will be lifted from Yettinahole between June and November every year without causing any kind of loss to people living in the coastal districts, the minster stated.
