Madikeri, Nov 26: Coorg superintendent of police (SP) Dr Rajendra Prasad has said that four suspects of robbery in Hosapattana near Kushalnagar have been arrested.
Speaking in the news conference held in Kushalnagar rural police station on Friday November 25, he explained that four out of nine suspects have been arrested in the robber case that occurred in the house of H D Shivakumar on November 24.
The persons arrested are, Abdul Rehman alias Zia (24), a lorry driver by profession residing in Uppinangadi, Mohammed Aleef (28) a scrap dealer residing in Ullal accused in 19 house thefts and murder, Mohammed Fayaz (28), fish trader residing in Thokkottu accused in 13 murders and theft cases and Jaffer Sadique 25), a tailor residing in Hampanakatta in Mangaluru accused in a case of extortion.
The police have come to know after questioning them that they had joined four other absconding suspects Nizam alias Nijju, Majeed, Saliat alias Salit and Jalal and took Innova car from Ali known to them. They came to Madikeri from Mangaluru in the car and met auto driver Krishna. They together hatched a conspiracy and stayed in a lodge in Kushalnagar. They came by the Innova car to Hosapattana and changed the number plate on directions from Krishna.
They waited in the coffee estate as planned until the door of the house of Shivakumar was opened. Aleef and Jalal went forward wearing monkey caps. Meanwhile Shivakumar’s cousin Vishwanath came to the house and rang the doorbell. Shivakumar went for bath after asking Vishwanath to bring flowers. When Vishwanath was near the flower plants, the suspects brandished deadly weapons, pulled him in the house, hit and kicked him, tied his hands and legs, closed his mouth with packing tape and stabbed him. They later locked the front door, went around the house and entered the house from the back door. Meanwhile Shivakumar came from the room of the deity to the hall. The suspects assaulted and kicked him, tied his hands and closed his mouth also with tape.
As neighbour Ishwar came to go with his friend Shivakumar to Bengaluru, he saw the door locked and came to the back door when the accused assaulted him also.
The robbers ransacked the cupboard and came out after taking diamonds worth above Rs 40 lacs, jewelry, silver, gold coins, cash of Rs 7 lac and revolver and asked Shivakumar for more valuables. On finding that Shivakumar did not have anything else, the suspects ran with the bag of booty.
Police who came to know of the incident, conducted intensive search with the help of dog squad, anti naxal force and others and arrested four of the suspects.
Rs 42,700 cash, 4 gold rings, 2 gold chains, one necklace, one Kariamani chain, two gold bangles, one bangle with black beads and two long knives have been recovered from the arrested robbers.
SP Rajendra Prasad has congratulated those who helped the police nab the suspects.
