Udupi, Nov 29: MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary at a press conference on Monday November 28 justified the demonetization of Rs 500, Rs 1000 notes saying, "Nearly 86% of the total population has supported Modi’s stand. RBI has retrieved 49% of Rs 500 notes and 35% of Rs 1000 notes amounting to 84%.
Initially Congress leaders also appreciated the demonetization of old notes.
As many as 1,500 farmers have lost their lives by committing suicide. The state government is diverting the attention of the people instead of compensating them.
Addressing the ‘Aakrosh Diwas’ Poojary said, "Only 3-4% of the people have been disinterested with this decision. Black money is still in the hands of 10% of the total population. Modi has asked for 50 days, now only 30 days are left. He also urged for people’s support to bring great changes in the economic system.
Kota also raised questions at parliament the meeting on various issues namely 94C, infrastructure for new village panchayats and Yettinahole project.
Regarding Yettinahole MLC Kota said, "Netravathi is the only source of water for the twin districts, but it is now drying up. It will affect agriculture and crops. According to the Paramashivaiah report, the total rainfall is 6000 mm, but actual rainfall is 3200 mm. There is need to create more awareness on this project.
As per the total amount of this project which is Rs 13,000 crore, Rs 1,800 crore has been paid. CM Siddaramaiah has given 15 days more to discuss this project. The parliament was forcefully adjourned without any valid reason. This is not good in democracy, said Srinivas Poojary.
On sand mining, Minister Vinay Kulkarni said, "More than Rs 50 crore has been collected as royalty from coastal district Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi. The economic department has released Rs 378.84 lac to the coastal districts. The distribution process is in progress. As per the recommendations of G S Nanjayya committee, the state government has not released the sanctioned fund to the newly formed 439 grama panchayats in spite of receiving an order. The concerned department has promised they will discuss the issue and they will come up with a solution for all these problems.
In addition to this, Kota said, as many as 392 grama panchayats did not have their own building. There are no government sites for classrooms. Nearly 460 panchayats in the office building require basic infrastructure.
