Udupi, Nov 29: Two Excise inspectors have been suspended for dereliction of duty in the Country Inn Hotel illegal liquor sale case.
Based on the report submitted by Excise district officer Nagesh, Excise DySP Vinod has suspended two Excise inspectors Jyoti and Shubhad for negligence concerning the Excise raid for alleged illegal sale at Country Inn Hotel in Manipal. The hotel is owned by former BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat.
The raid was conducted on August 27 this year after locals had complained that liquor was served illegally at the hotel. Prima facie, it was found that the allegations were true. But when the report regarding the raid was submitted, it was discovered that the now suspended inspectors did not furnish proper details. It is believed that this favoured the hotel management.
The mistakes in the report were unearthed by Excise district officer Nagesh.
When approached, Raghupati Bhat said he is in New Delhi and hence could not comment.
