Kasargod, Nov 30: The entire Pilamkatte village turned gloomy after news of two tiny tots having drowned in a well in the village spread. The incident happened on Tuesday November 29.
The ill-fated children to have lost their lives were Ramsan (4), son of Hamid living on Pilamkatte-Ubrangala Road, and Naswan (2), son of Hamid's brother, Shabbir. The incident occurred at around 9.30 am on Tuesday.
Both these children were playing together in the courtyard of their house on Tuesday morning. They suddenly went missing. Family members who went searching for them saw that water in the well located in the courtyard had turned muddy. People from the area who rushed for help conducted search inside the well and found that both the children had drowned. By the time they were brought out, the young children had breathed their last.
The well in question has protective wall. However, a heap of crushed stones was lying adjacent to the wall. It is felt that the children would have scaled this heap when playing, and slipped into the well accidentally.
The fathers of the two children, who are siblings, work in the Gulf region. Ramsan has left behind father, mother, Riyana, sister, Sapna and others. Naswan is survived by father, mother, Nasiya, and others.
Badiyadka police reached the spot and conducted inquest. Thereafter postmortem was conducted at Badiyadka community health centre. Family sources expect the fathers of the deceased children to reach here on Wednesday. The entire village plunged into deep grief at this sudden fate that befell on the two families.
Some claim that in the recent past, parents have often been found be lacking in keeping tab on the movements of their small children because of increased dependence on televisions, cellphones, internet etc.
