Mangalore, Jan 17: Advancement in technology and increased competition have brought in revolutionary changes in the field of human resource management, said Corporation Bank chairman and managing director B Sambamurthy while delivering the TA Pai endowment lecture here on Wednesday January 16.

The endowment lecture on 'Management of Human Resources in Banking' was organized by the Mangalore University department of economics at Mangalagangothri here.

Sambamurthy said that the banking sector in India had witnessed enormous growth and had become stronger than that in the USA, Japan and China.

Though some sectors have surplus manpower, in others there is a huge demand for the same. Banks have more responsibilities now thanks to deregulation which has increased the demand for skilled marketing personnel, he said.

He cited recruitment, training, development and compensation as the major challenges to an HR manager and stressed on the need to adopt business management and IT programmes in order to be successful.

Mangalore University vice-chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa presided over the programme.

Among those present were registrar of the University Dr K Sundar Naik, TAPMI director Nadabrahmam, faculty member of the department of economics Prof G V Joshi, Udayavani managing editor Satish Pai and others.
