Belagavi, Dec 1: The state labour department is moving towards amending the law to provide for 70 percent employment reservation for Kannadigas in private sector. The law, once passed, will be applicable in respect of industries and other units in private sector which draw facilities from the government.
This issue of giving a concrete shape to this proposal was discussed at a meeting attended by labour minister, Santosh Lad, and law minister, T B Jayachandra, at a meeting of senior officials of both the departments held at Suvarna Soudha here on Wednesday November 30.
Speaking to media persons later, Lad said that Dr Sarojini Mahishi report had in the past, recommended for such a reservation for Kannadigas, but successive governments were unable to implement it. He said that a draft of the ammendment to be brought to law has been prepared, and the chief ministers has agreed to bring this reservation into force. A specific decision on the issue will be taken at the cabinet meeting in a few days, he added.
