Kasargod: Man faces repeated assaults

Kasargod, Dec 3: In an incident which occurred at Kaniyala in the district, Talemogaru Venugopal Shetty (38), CPM Badoor committee activist, was attacked by a gang that reportedly was angered by the fact that Shetty had filed a police complaint relating to an earlier attack on him.

On Thursday evening, a five-member gang which came by car attacked Shetty who was on his return home after delivering milk at Kaniyala. It is said that when he tried to maneuver his scooter to escape from the car, the gang knocked his scooter with the car. Injured Venugopal Shetty was taken by his brother, Jayaprakash Shetty, by car to a hospital when the gang obstructed them and shattered the window panes, it is said.

Injured Shetty stands admitted into Kumble Co-operative Hospital. Manjeshwar police have booked Sayyed Muhammked Rafiq, Ajeeb, Batisha, Ashraf and Nassar for murder attempt.

Venugopal had been asaulted on Tuesday for the first time after he questioned a youth who had visited the kitchen during the annual day function at Badoor School. It is said that a three-member gang attacked him later on his return home with wife and child. Badiyadka police have registered a case against the three on this case.

Some feel that these attacks are taking place because of strong resistance by Venugopal Shetty for illegal sand mining activity.
