Beltangady, Dec 3: A five-year-old girl died after a car smashed into her while she was crossing the road at Kokkada here late evening on Saturday December 3.
The deceased has been identified as Krithika (5), daughter of Shivappa, a resident of Patladka.
A student of first standard, Krithika had been to a doctor in Kokkada with her mother. On the way back, she was hit by a car while crossing the road.
A seriously injured Krithika was rushed to hospital, where she breathed her last.
The car was being driven by a person identified as Narayana Shabarady. A case has been registered against him in Dharmasthala police station.
Locals who witnessed the accident alleged that Narayana was drunk.
The car belongs to the day care centre for Endosulfan victims managed under Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) and is not supposed to be driven for personal use after duty hours. The locals have reportedly complained to Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala that Narayana had misused the vehicle to drive with his friends.
