Mangalore, Jan 18: The board of office-bearers of Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) has decided to adopt wait-and-see policy, in the case of reinstatement of the lecturer Shakuntala Kamat, who was dismissed on charges of indiscipline, informed Prof AM Narahari, head of department of commerce, St Aloysius College to media persons at the press meet held at AMUCT office, located near PVS circle here on Friday January 18.
The decision has been made with a hope that the city-based Narayana Guru College, which had sacked the lecturer on charges of ‘indiscipline,’ would reinstate her with appropriate compensation. If justice is not done to the teacher, then the association would stage agitation in front of college and residence of the management heads of the institution, in the first and second phase respectively, he added.
‘They have taken the court and its verdict for a ride; the versions presented in the court and communicated to me are largely different. The term indiscipline was never raised and deliberately avoided in court, but the term was repeatedly highlighted and underlined while communicating to me. The court has considered my service regular, entitling me to all the facilities of a regular employee, but treatment of the college towards me has never been so,’ Shakuntala Kamat, said airing her grievance.
“My health is deteriorating day-by-day because of their torture; seeking public support was my final resort. I am ready to ‘sacrifice’ pension and other post-retirement benefits, but I must be compensated,” she added.
Many organizations, such as Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have decided to support in her struggle against ‘the injustice and exploitation by the management’ on the occasion.
Office-bearers of the association and representatives of various social organizations were present on the occasion.
