Mangaluru: Pro Kabaddi and throw ball tournament held at Mulky

Mangaluru, Dec 5: Indian Catholic Youth Movement Mulky Unit and Udupi Power Company Limited (UPCL) jointly organised Pro Kabaddi and throw ball tournament for men and women on Sunday December 4 at Mulky Church premises.

The international Kabaddi player Udaya Chowta, with the other guests inaugurated the tournament by lighting the lamp and former minister Abhayachandra Jain flew the balloons.

 

 

There were 15 teams for Kabaddi and 8 teams for throw ball from different parishes of Mangalore diocese.

The final match of Kabaddi was between Permannur and Madanthyar, and Permannur won the match and received the cash prize of Rs 7777 with certificates and a trophy. Runner up Madanthyar team was awarded with cash prize of Rs 5555 with certificates and a trophy.

The individual award for best all-rounder was bagged by Vishwas Permannur, the best rider was Daniel Madanthyar and the best defender was Vipul from Permannur team.
In throw ball, the finale battle was between Vamanjoor and Mulky. Vamanjoor bagged the title by defending the Mulky team. Winner and runner up were awarded with the cash prize of Rs 7777 and Rs 5555 with certificates and trophies.

Dakshina Kannada district Rajyotsava awardee for the year 2016-2017, Dr Suresh Aranha distributed the prizes during the valedictory programme.

There was a procession from the Mulky church to the stage escorting the guests to the dais led by the band troupe of Bethany English medium school Mulky.

Abhayachandra Jain presided over the inaugural ceremony. Kishore Alva Executive Director, Corporate affairs, Adani Power Ltd, K Rohini ,Udupi District Information & public relations officer, Clifford Lobo, Range forest officer. Ratan Shetty, Karnataka state Kabaddi player and the co-ordinator of Karnataka state Kabaddi association, Aravind Punja, managing trustee, Harihara temple Karnad. Joy Carvalho, international volleyball player. Dawood Hakeem, Fr Francis Xavier Gomes. parish priest of Immaculate Conception Church Mulky, Joel D'Souza, vice president, Mulky parish pastoral parishad, Celine Rodrigues, secretary, Mulky parish pastoral parishad were the dignitaries present during the occasion.

Fr Francis Xavier Gomes introduced the guests and delivered the welcome speech. Michelle delivered vote of thanks. Lirisha D’Souza compered the programme.
