Mangaluru, Dec 5: “Now since that government has formulated the laws for the Moola Geni act of 2011 and has also sent circulars to the tahasildars in regard to the same, the several families in the district who are still not able to get the ownership of the land they dwell since several years can submit the applications in the office of the tahasildars," Said Ivan D’Souza, the chief whip of Karnataka Legislative council.

Addressing the media persons in his office in the city he said that even though the Moola Geni act came into existence in 2012, the rules were not formulated and hence the act was not implemented. “Now the government has formulated the rules and have been sent to the respective Tahasildars in the district. The application forms of the procedure to take the ownership of the land will be available soon in the tahasildars office after they issue a public advertisement of the seeking the Moola Geni tenants to take the ownership of the land.” he added.

“As per a survey, there are about one lac families in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts who have still not been able to take the ownership of the land they live on since several years. This also made them get the facilities of the government.” he explained.

'Hopefully Kambala will resume soon'

"To safeguard the interests of the Kambala the government has submitted an affidavit which says that the Kambala and Jallikattu of Tamil Nadu origin are not related. In Kambala there is no violence and even last year the Kambala have taken place under the supervision of the tahasildars. The animal husbandry department officials have said that they will not submit any affidavit against Kambala, and it is the will of the government to conduct Kambala in its original form. Since the matter is already in the Supreme Court the government itself can not issue any circulars. We hope to get the decision in the favour of Kambala," he said.
