Puttur, Dec 6: A LPG tanker fell by the roadside after its driver lost control over the vehicle, at Kadambu in Perne in the taluk on Monday December 5. The incident brought back stark memories of the horrific accident in 2013 here in which about ten lives were lost and many were injured in this village. Due to the accident, which occurred on Monday morning, driver of the tanker was injured, while the cleaner escaped unhurt.
The accident spot this time was near Srirama Bhajana Mandir at Kadambu on national highway 75. The injured driver happens to be Alagiri Swamy (30) from Tamil Nadu. He stands admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru. Cleaner, Velu, survived without any injuries. As the gas tanker was not damaged and there was no leakage, a major tragedy was averted.
Local MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Bhushan G Borase, additional superintendent of police, Vedamurty, and Bantwal tahsildar, Purandar Hegde, visited the spot. Later, the trolley portion of the tanker was separated and the tanker was lifted with crane and shifted to another engine, which took lot of time.
Uppinangady police and police from Bantwal and town traffic stations, fire personnel, LPG emergency response vehicle, and technicians joined hands to handle the emergency. A local helped the firemen by providing them facility to draw water from the pond owned by him.
