Kasargod: Bus passenger with Rs 13 lac in demonetised currency held

Kasargod, Dec 6: Excise officials arrested a bus passenger and confiscated from him Rs 13 lac in cash in the form of old currency notes in the denominations of Rs 500 and 1000.

The operation was conducted late night on Sunday, December 4. The money was found to being transported by a bus plying between Kollur and Kottarakkara. Relating to the incident, Dhanraj (40), son of Ramachandra Bhagat from Maharashtra state was arrested.

During the checking at the excise check post at Manjeshwar, officials found the above sum in a bag belonging to Dhanraj, in the form of  12 bundles of Rs 1,000 notes and two bundles of Rs 500 notes. Dhanraj, it is said, has been conducting business in gold at Kannur since the last two decades. During his questioning, he revealed that he was taking the money from Mumbai to Kannur. He was handed over to Manjeshwar police on Sunday for further investigation.

In the past too there have been instances of demonetised notes being brought into Kerala from Karnataka.
