Fog disrupts air, rail, vehicular traffic in UP

Lucknow, Dec 7 (IANS): Fog and poor visibility on Wednesday morning disrupted air, rail as well as vehicular traffic movement in Uttar Pradesh.

More than two dozen trains of the Northern Railway (NR) and North Eastern Railway (NER) were running late.

Railway officials told IANS that trains running late included Himgiri Express (26 hours), Amarnath Express (20 hours), Purbia Express (18 hours), Kaifiyat Express (19 hours), Avadh-Assam Express, Punjab Mail, Kota-Patna Express, Nauchandi Express, Bihar Sampark Kranti Express, Gareeb Rath, Mau-Anand Vihar Express, Triveni Express and many more.

Due to timetables going haywire and continued fog, the railways cancelled four major trains -- 14258 Kashi-Vishwanath Express between Varanasi and New Delhi, Himgiri Express, Marudhar Express between Jaipur and Lucknow and the 12232 Chandigarh Express.

Air traffic was also hit because of poor visibility. Two Indigo flights -- Lucknow-Delhi and Lucknow-Bengaluru -- were cancelled on Tuesday.

According to airport authorities, the visibility was poor on Wednesday morning and several flights were delayed.

Vehicular traffic on most of the highways was slow, and occupancy on state run buses has come down to half of its capacity.
