Mangaluru: Elderly lady dies in bee attack, three injured

Mangaluru, Dec 8: An elderly woman died and three others sustained injuries in a bee attack Laxmigudde in Pilar, Someshwar near here on Thursday December 8.

Kamala (65), a resident of Ulaibettu died in the incident, while Sridhar (49), his wife Leelavati (45) and mother Janaki (70) were seriously injured and admitted to hospital in Deralakatte.

It is learnt that Kamala had come to her son-in-law Sridhar's house in Laxmigudde two days ago. On Thursday, Sridhar's mother Janaki left for the nearby woods to collect firewood, and Kamala accompanied her.

While they were looking for firewood, a swarm of bees attacked Kamala. On hearing her screams, Janaki who was a little distance away rushed to her rescue, but she too was stung by the bees.

Sridhar and Leelavati who heard their mothers' shouts for help came running to the spot, and they too sustained injuries from the bee attack.

Sridhar managed to bring all the women out of the woods and rushed Kamala, who had been serverely injured, to hospital. However, she failed to respond to treatment and breathed her last.

While Sridhar is said to have recuperated, Janaki is undergoing treatment, and Leelavati is in the ICU, sources said.
