Mangaluru, Dec 11: Veteran playwright, actor and director Francis Fernandes Cascia’s Konkani play 'Matharo Chorbela' saw the record 75th show at the Town Hall in city on December 10. Catholic Sabha City Episcopal deanery hosted the show in aid of construction of houses for the poor.
The play written and first presented at Mira Road in Mumbai in 2008 has been staged all over India as well as abroad. This is the 33rd play from Francis Fernandes Cascia and has been directed by Joy Paladka. Talented and experienced artistes from Mumbai have acted in the play.
MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza MLC, spiritual director of City Episcopal Catholic Sabha Fr William Menezes, Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh president Anil Lobo, Catholic Sabha deanery president Steven Rodrigues, Secretary Charlotte, Alfred Bennis of ABC and convenor Nigel Pereira were present on stage during the brief felicitation programme. Catholic Sabha honoured Francis Fernandes Cascia for his achievement in theatre. Director Joy Paladka was also felicitated by the organisers.
In his acknowledgement speech, Francis Fernandes Cascia thanked organisers and specially the audience who supported him during his 55 years of career in drama. He remembered Edwin Banz who was a leading actor in the troupe until 63 shows, who died of cancer two years back.
