Mangalore, Jan 23: S Bangarappa, Samajwadi party state president speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Jan 22 did not appear too positive about the assembly polls being held in May.
Expressing his scepticism, he said since the president Pratiba Patil had not given her assent to delimitation hence he was doubtful about the polls being held in the month of May. Further he stated that even if the Pesident were to give her go ahead within a fortnight, it would take some time for the election commission to reorganize the voters' list according to the delimited constituencies.
According to him the polls would possibly be held in May according to the old constituency list or in Oct/Nov after the monsoon as per delimitation. When a point was made with regard to the preparations made by party for the forthcoming polls Bangarappa informed that they would be contesting for all the 224 constituencies and will not be aligning with any party.
He asserted he would be contesting the assembly polls but would be naming the constituency after the announcement of poll dates. He further said that when he was the chief minister he had given free power to farmers with irrigation pump sets below 10 hp and the same will continue when the Samajwadi party comes to the helm, he promised.
Discussing their campaigning strategy, Bangarappa said his party will organize a state-level backward class conference at Chitradurga in the last week of February. The guests expected to attend this function would be party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh, Jaya Bachchan, Telugu Desam paty leader Chandrababu Naidu and others.
