Mangaluru, Dec 16: "Central Muslim Committee of undivided DK district and other Muslim organisations will hold a mega women's convention to protect Shariat at Town Hall on December 20," informed Shamira Jahan, member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, women's unit of Mangaluru.
Addressing media persons here on Friday December 16, Shamira said, "This convention is being jointly organized by all the Muslim organizations in the district. Today, Talaq is being projected in a wrong way for political gains. This convention is being organized as part of the protests against this wrong portrayal.
"There are many personal laws related to divorce, alimony and marriage. This is a right given by the Constitution. Despite this, the central government in the name of misuse of triple Talaq is trying to implement the Uniform Civil Code. By doing so, the government has once again shown its anti-Muslim approach.
"This is a conspiracy of communal powers which have always been opposing multi-culturalism. All the Muslim women need to raise their voice against this. Thus the convention is being organized at Town Hall on December 20 from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm. Many eminent speakers will address the convention," she said.
Conveners of Shariat protection ommittee Sajida Moomin, Sayeeda Yusuf and others were present.
