Belagavi: Note ban a Modi-made disaster - Rahul Gandhi

Belagavi, Dec 17 (IANS) : Terming note ban a (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi-made disaster for the country, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused the NDA government of aiding the rich at the cost of the poor through demonetisation.

"Demonetisation, which was meant to curb black money and root out corruption, is a Modi-made disaster, as over 100 people died standing in queues at banks for a few notes across the country," said Gandhi at a public meeting in this Karnataka town, about 500 km from Bengaluru.

Addressing a huge rally to mark the birth centenary of former Prime Minister and his grandmother Indira Gandhi, Gandhi said only the rich had benefitted from the note ban at the cost of the poor, farmers and labourers in millions across the country.

"The Modi government came to power in the name of the poor but is sounding death knell to the hapless population to help about 50 super rich families. Who are these families holding most of the wealth in the country? You can see them touring foreign countries with Modi at the government cost. This is your Prime Minister whom you had reposed hopes of bettering your lives," he alleged.

Noting that Modi failed to realise that black money hoarders invest their ill-gotten wealth in real estate, gold and in foreign banks, Gandhi said a mere six per cent of unaccounted wealth was in cash while 94 per cent was either deposited in Swiss banks or in real estate.

"Unfortunately, in the name of the poor, honest and tax-paying people, Modi is going after them and ignoring the remaining 94 per cent," he said.

Remembering his grandmother on the occasion, Gandhi also said he was sad over the plight of the ordinary people facing hardship due to cash crunch for over a month.

"I want to ask Modiji why his government had not disclosed names of those who had stashed their black money in Swiss banks even after its government gave the list. Why he is not acting against crooks like Lalit Modi and liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who are staying in London?" asked Gandhi in his speech in Hindi.

Why are bhaktas disturbed by truth? Demonetization is a disaster. There is no doubt in it. Congress was corrupt. But the BJP has amassed more wealth in the last 30 months than what the Congress accumulated in the last 60 years. Country is in a mess for those who want to see it. Those who are blind you cannot teach them to see. Let us not see issues through the eyes of parties but through the eyes of people

Whenever there's an article about Rahul on any news paper, I come straight to comments section to see how people react. I think Rahul should do the same and he would get to know what a clown he is. In Karnataka, Siddaramiaah is already destroying the party from within.

Anirudh, the simple math calculated by government was that out of 15.44 lakh crore in circulation, about 30% was black currency and would never get deposited in banks!. That means government would have got 4.5 lakh crore!. Now with 90% in banks and still 2 weeks to go!, thr black money would amount to less than 50000 crores!. Didn't the government make fool of everyone! ?. Is it worth if you consider the cost of demonetization and also its effect on GDP! ?

If people deposit black money in the bank, the Income Tax department will begin an investigation which could land them in jail.

It is not surprising people are getting rid of black money in landfills and other places.

Oppositions tactics is to prove that anyone who speaks on their decisions are always wrong. For keeping them shut, they resort to technique of naming them as PAPPU as in the case of Rahul.

Although am not the supporter of either ruling or opposition but being a citizen of India, keep watching the developments. D

emonetization cannot be termed as fool proof decision. Long term implications are yet to be realized. It may even turn out to be Modi made disaster instead of man made disaster as the whole launching and planning seem to be suspicious. Rahul's stand in many issues cannot be neglected.

Nation especially the common man is awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court Constitutional bench decision for an early decision on the demonetization. Like the decision given in SR Bommai case on the use of Art 356 to dismiss Governments we hope and pray that some strictures and guidelines are passed to stop one immature mind from holding the entire nation to ransom through demonetization.

Goal posts have been changing since the announcement of drastic demonetisation. Bank has no money, and most ATM's are not functioning. In Q's most of the people don't know how to type their pin numbers forget about the digital economy. Slowly Modi is becoming joker in Indian Politics.

Modi has given a big Christmas Bonanza to the Political parties: They are tax exempt when they deposit money. This is a big loop hole. Now many black money hoarders will give their money to the politicians to make it white and get favours later. Shame on Modi. The poor are crying and the rich are laughing after demonitization.

    Dear Pradeep.

Mumbai/New Delhi, Dec 18 (IANS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said that no change has been made in tax laws to bar income tax returns of registered political parties being scrutinised with regard to deposit of demonetised currency notes and the law is fully equipped to inspect their accounts.

"In the last two and a half years that the government has been in power, the legal and taxation regime with regard to political parties remains absolutely same to what it existed for the last 15-20 years. There is not a single change that has been brought about, nor is there any change that is contemplated," Jaitley said in Mumbai.

We should believe what u r bluffering?
