Udupi, Dec 18: Ahead of the blessing and inauguration of the newly-constructed building of Holy Family Church, Brahmavar, the newly-erected belfry tower of the Church was blessed and inaugurated on Sunday December 18. The Holy Cross at the altar was also blessed on the occasion.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of diocese of Udupi blessed the belfry tower while Mary D'Silva and family, Uppinakote, Mabukala, the sponsors of the belfry tower, unveiled the plaque.
The Holy Cross at the altar was donated by Frank Dolcy Mascarenhas, Brahmavar.
Blessing the newly-erected belfry tower, bishop Dr Gerald said, "In olden days the bells in the church were a vital means of communication. Be it a happy moment or a sad one, or to give call for the Eucharistic celebrations or any important religious event, in the noise-free environment of those days, the ringing of the bells were heard to great distances.
"With only a few days to go for the inauguration of the Church, let us come together, work hand in hand, and be prepared to welcome the big day and moment in our lives. Let the ringing of these bells bring us together from now on," he said.
Fr Henry Mascarenhas, estate manager, diocese of Udupi, Fr Victor Ferandes, Superior, Holy Family Friary, Brahmavar, Fr Roshan, Fr Charles, Fr Dominic, Ravi Prakash, vice-president, Josephine Lewis, secetaray of pastoral council, members of building committee and parishoners were present.
The birthday of Fr Victor Fernandes was also celebrated on the occasion.
Upcoming event
The grand inaguration of the newly-built church will be held on Wednesday December 28 at 9 am.
Udupi bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo and Mangaluru diocese bishop Dr Aloysuis Paul D'Souza will bless the new church building, while Fr Dolphy Joseph Pais, provincial, Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka will inaugurate.
After the inaguration and thanksgiving, holy Eucharistic mass and public felicitation programme will he held. A fellowship meal will be arranged for all the devotees.
