Mangalore, Jan 26: Banking operations across the country and also in the city were hit as bank officers and employees of banks all over the country under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) observed a day’s bundh here on Friday January 25.

They were protesting over wage-related issues and pressing for various demands which have remained unresolved for past two years in spite of assurances by Indian Banks Association and the government of India.

Accordingly, the district unit of UFBU observed a strike in front of the Corporation Bank head office at Pandeshwar in the city at 9.30 am, as per schedule. The striking staff raised slogans and put forth their demands vociferously.

Their demands include stopping merger of public sector banks, extending one more option to join pension scheme,  restoring compassionate appointments, filling up all unfilled vacancies through recruitment, stopping outsourcing of normal banking services and early settlement of wage revision.

According to the UFBU instructions there will be a two-day strike in February as a follow-up action of this strike.
