Kasargod, Dec 22: In a tragic suicide attempt reported at Madikai near Kanhangad, a woman threw her two children into a well before herself jumping into it. While both the children died, the woman survived. The incident took place on Thursday December 22.
Geeta (40), a resident of Kanichira in Madikai, reportedly jumped into the well after tossing in her children Harinanda (6) and Laxminanda (3).
Geeta''''''''s husband Sudhakar was out at the time of the incident. When he returned, he found the house empty, and on searching, heard sounds emanating from the well. It was then that the incident came to light.
Sudhakar raised an alarm and soon, locals gathered at the spot. Fire personnel arrived soon after receiving information about the incident.
All three were brought out of the well, but the children had already died by then.
Geeta was rushed to Kanhangad government hospital. Her condition is said to be serious.
It is learnt that all three sustained grave injuries on the head when they hit the bottom of the well.
Geeta is a teacher at a private school in Kanhangad. Her husband Sudhakar is in postal service.
The exact reason for taking the extreme step is not yet known.
Hosadurg police have registered a case.
