Chamarajanagara: Head teacher gets electrocuted

Chamarajanagara, Dec 24: Mariswamy (50), head teacher of government higher primary school at Karalamole village in the taluk died after he accidentally came in contact with electricity on Friday December 23. He was a resident of Jyotigowdanapura village.

Mariswamy saw that a branch of a tree was coming in contact with  power cables passing near the school compound. In an attempt to save the students from imminent danger, he went up the tree in the afternoon and cut the branch.  In this process, he suddenly started shouting, as electricity flowed through his body. By the time other teachers rushed to his rescue, Mariswamy had died on the spot.

The teachers then called Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company staff and got power supply to the area disconnected.  It is learnt that the company officials had cut down several branches of the said tree in the past, anticipating the risk. But the branches had grown again and started touching the power lines.

MLA, C Puttaranga Shetty, zilla panchayat member, R Balaraju etc visited the hospital to which the body was taken, and consoled grieving relatives of the head teacher. A case about the unnatural death was filed in Ramasamudra police station.
