Beltangady, Dec 24: Police have arrested a person who had been absconding for the past 21 years in connection to an acid attack that took place in 1995.

Shankara Gowda (63) from Kadirudyavara village near here is the person arrested.

As per details, Shankara Gowda had thrown acid on the face and hands of Ganesh Prabhu of Ujire on 27 September 2016.

It is alleged that Shankara Gowda had gone with his wife Sandhya and children to Ganesh Prabhu's STD shop to enquire whether Ganesh had come and knocked at their house door. When Ganesh replied in the negative, Sandhya asked him to come to their house later. When Ganesh came and knocked at Gowda's door at 11.15 pm, the latter sneaked up from behind and allegedly threw acid on Ganesh Prabhu.

Though the case was registered in 1995, no arrest could be made as Shankara had gone absconding.

Beltangady police inspector Ravi B S arrested the accused with the help of his team.

A job well accomplished - It only shows the efficiency of the present police force. Belthangadi comes under the jurisdiction of the present S.P. in Mangalore Mr. Bushan. He has indeed given a good account of himself ever since he took charge of Mangalore suburbs some months ago.
